Today I will report on a recent innovative project to combine high-pressure condensate from two sources. The upgrade consisted of raising the water temperature to the OR-16 boiler. The increase in the enthalpy of the water is due to an innovative installation that allows us to take advantage of the high temperature and pressure of the condensate, which until now has been cooled and expanded to atmospheric pressure (to go to the deaerator). The high-pressure condensate enters the coal boiler from two sources: the steam produced in the OR-16 boiler and the steam produced in the gas boiler.
Condensate management itself is changing. Before the upgrade, it was expanded and degassed (in a deaerator) while after the upgrade, the high-pressure condensate goes directly to the feedwater pump and, as a result, to the feedwater manifold of the OR-16 boiler, making it take much less heat to generate steam, which has a strong effect on the boiler’s coal consumption. The problems of cavitation, preservation of flow direction and parallel operation of pumps have been solved m. in. due to modifications to pumps, introduction of additional check valves and additional metering of the system.
