We are proud to announce that CertyNergia Poland is planning to build the largest energy storage facility in Poland for the moment.

Work is currently underway on the construction of a battery energy storage facility by the Swedish company OX2. Their project was to commission the largest such facility in Poland, with a default capacity of 50MW and 100MWh.

We decided to join the challenge and set the bar high.

Our project involves the creation of a 𝟮𝟱𝟮𝗠𝗪𝗵 storage facility with PV 𝟲𝟯𝗠𝗪. For example, currently the largest such structures outside of Poland are located, for example, in Buckinghamshire, UK, where the Bumper BESS energy storage boasts a capacity of 99MW and 198 MWh.

We are proud, knowing that we are contributing to the construction of a facility that in the future will be among the top in the energy industry.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 25/26, and we can’t wait!

What is energy efficiency

Energy efficiency according to regulatory and engineering approaches is a reduction in energy consumption per unit of product.

What does this mean?
Increased energy efficiency does not always result in a nominal reduction in energy consumption.

Example:

Company X replaces a machine with a capacity of 100 products in a certain period of time and consuming 200 kWh of energy to produce these 100 products with a machine Y producing 200 products in the same period of time consuming 300 kWh of energy to do so then the increase in energy efficiency is calculated as follows:

<sup>200 kWh/100</sup><sub>pcs</sub> – <sup>300 kWh/200</sup><sub>pcs </sub>= 2 [kWh/szt] – 1.5 kWh/pc = 0.5 kWh/pc

White certificate system

We recommend that Enterprises take the following approach, which will allow them to analyze all options related to energy demand and find appropriate solutions that will form the core of the decarbonization path:

White certificates

White certificates make it possible to obtain additional financing for planned projects, including for companies receiving other state aid, including within economic zones:

Energy efficiency vs. industry decarbonization

Increased energy efficiency is always directly related to a reduction in CO2 emissions (according to the emission factors of individual fuels or electricity of the KOBiZE)

Reducing emissions in this way is the easiest way not only to save economically (in the long term), but also to reduce the carbon footprint of Scope 1, which is directly and independently influenced by the company (usually as opposed to Scope 3 emissions)

Developing a plan to implement energy efficiency projects can be a major component of a company’s decarbonization plan, which the company can be confident of implementing

Implementation of energy efficiency projects enshrined in a mandatory energy audit is increasingly a condition for receiving financial support from public funds

Examples of energy efficiency projects in industry

Example 1 – turning back the exhaust gas in the process

Description:
Turning back hot flue gases will enable more complete energy recovery and reduce natural gas consumption per Mg of finished product. The amount of returned flue gas will be controlled by an automation system depending on the operation of the burners. At present, fresh air to the burners is preheated on a plate heat exchanger, with the flue gases discharged to the emitter. In this way, only part of the energy is recovered. As part of the task, in order to make fuller use of the energy contained in the waste gas, it is necessary to make a loop to turn back part of the flue gas. To this end, it is planned to upgrade the flue gas ducts, eliminate dead spaces and protect the bag filter against corrosion. Due to the temperature of the flue gas, close to the condensation temperature of moisture, there is a need to modernize the existing elements of the flue gas ducts and make them in corrosion-resistant technology (stainless steel), as well as provide adequate thermal insulation.

Results achieved:
CAPEX: PLN 650,000
Energy savings: 22,883MWh, 1,967 TOE
Economic savings: more than PLN 4,500,000/year
White cert revenue: PLN 3,934,000

Example 2 – heat recovery from compressors

Description:
One of the best ways to save energy is heat recovery. They can be recovered from various sources and reused in the plant at different locations. One example of heat recovery is compressed air systems. One of our clients invested in such a system, which resulted in the complete shutdown of two gas furnaces previously used to produce domestic hot water and for central heating. The investment paid for itself after less than a year.

It should not be forgotten that any such action has a direct impact on emissions therefore reduces the organization’s carbon footprint in scope 1. Only in scope 1 or 2 does the company have direct control over its emissions, so for determining the decarbonization path, it is worth remembering to prepare a list of such projects and include the effects of their implementation in the plans for reducing emissions.

Results achieved:
CAPEX: ~ PLN 75,000
Energy savings: 1,360 MWh, 117 TOE
Economic savings: more than PLN 175,000/year
White cert revenue: PLN 234,000

Example 3 – heat recovery from the chimney of a cement plant

Description:
Among the most common solutions used by CertyNergia Polska clients is waste heat recovery, the results allow recovery of up to 80 percent of waste energy.

One example is the heat recovery from a chimney in a cement plant, illustrated in the accompanying graphic.
The project results in savings of more than 5 GWh of energy per year, about 38,000 tons of CO2 per year.

Revenues from acquired energy efficiency certificates amount to more than €1,000,000….

Achieved results:
Economic savings: more than 1,000,000 PLN/year
White cert revenue: > 4,300,000 PLN

Today I’d like to report on an ORC boiler efficiency improvement project we completed for a large paper industry client. The customer operates the OR-16 boiler to supply steam to its technology. Efficiency measurements performed (based on laboratory tests of fuel and slag and measurements of boiler operating conditions) showed an efficiency of less than 70%. The boiler’s blast box was upgraded and then the efficiency measurements were re-measured using the same methodology used as standard in large utility thermal power plants. Realized measurements showed an efficiency of just over 90%. Investment outlays closed in the amount of about PLN 600 thousand, while annual savings through reduced fuel consumption amount to more than PLN 1,300,000 per year. In addition, funds were raised from awarded energy efficiency certificates in excess of 1,500 toe. Importantly – annual carbon dioxide emissions fell by 7,126.41 MgCO2/year

Our experts will help you identify opportunities regarding energy savings. There is potential for further savings at every facility, even the best managed – contact us today to learn more

In a recent survey on direct line – a new solution for connecting renewable energy installations to industrial facilities – as many as 33% of respondents said they were unfamiliar with it and a further 8% said they did not know if it would help install a renewable energy source at the plant… Direct line is a direct connection of an installation such as a photovoltaic plant to the plant’s internal grid. Importantly, the launch of the direct line will be possible without the need to obtain regulatory approval for this purpose. Only a listing of such lines will be required. The ERO will make the entry on the basis of the application of the entity applying for the construction of the direct line. The notification must include information on the parameters of the line, as well as an expert opinion on the impact of this line or the equipment, installations or networks connected to it on the power system, which is dictated by the need to ensure the safety of the operation of the National Power System.

Entities using direct lines will be charged so-called “direct lines. solidarity fee. It is to supplement fixed costs not covered by other components of the tariff, the quality charge or the power charge.

If you are interested in such a solution, contact us today – we will help you take the appropriate steps to power yourself independently from the grid from your own installation

Today I will report on a recent innovative project to combine high-pressure condensate from two sources. The upgrade consisted of raising the water temperature to the OR-16 boiler. The increase in the enthalpy of the water is due to an innovative installation that allows us to take advantage of the high temperature and pressure of the condensate, which until now has been cooled and expanded to atmospheric pressure (to go to the deaerator). The high-pressure condensate enters the coal boiler from two sources: the steam produced in the OR-16 boiler and the steam produced in the gas boiler. Condensate management itself is changing. Before the upgrade, it was expanded and degassed (in a deaerator) while after the upgrade, the high-pressure condensate goes directly to the feedwater pump and, as a result, to the feedwater manifold of the OR-16 boiler, making it take much less heat to generate steam, which has a strong effect on the boiler’s coal consumption. The problems of cavitation, preservation of flow direction and parallel operation of pumps have been solved m. in. due to modifications to pumps, introduction of additional check valves and additional metering of the system. Energy savings are more than 20,000 MWh per year. If you want to use energy efficiently, contact us – we will help you find places where energy savings can be realized – our experts are at your service

White certificates – new opportunities and possibilities to support energy-saving investments.
On October 1, 2016, an amendment to the Law on
Energy Efficiency, which has been in effect since 2012, came into force with the aim of bringing Polish legislation in line with the provisions of
the European Union directive and the changing business and economic conditions.
The law provides for a number of new obligations, but also a palette of previously unavailable
opportunities related to improving the energy efficiency of the economy, which Poland
is obliged to do, and which can be implemented by companies or
public administration units.
One of the tools for supporting investments that improve the efficiency of energy consumption is
a system of energy efficiency certificates, commonly known as “white certificates.”
In a nutshell, this system consists in the possibility of obtaining the above-mentioned
certificates for the energy savings
achieved in the enterprise thanks to the realized or planned investment. The resulting certificates can be liquidated through transactions
on the Polish Power Exchange and thus provide an additional source of financing
investments.
Last year’s amendment introduces many changes from the previous law,
below I will cite a few of them:

Replacing the tenders
announced by the Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) from time to time for obtaining white certificates with a system of continuous call for applications with a 45-day
deadline for the ERO to issue a decision. This change greatly simplifies and simplifies
the acquisition of certificates, and also defines – not insignificantly – the timeframe within
which an investor can acquire certificates

Allowing companies that are participants in the
European Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) to participate in the support system

Enabling the acquisition of certificates for projects already implemented (completed
between 1.1.2014 and 30.09.2016)

enabling the acquisition of certificates for projects that have already received
partial support from public funds

Enabling the acquisition of certificates for projects yet to be planned – the condition
for obtaining support is to perform an energy efficiency audit of the project and
submit an application to the ERO for the issuance of white certificates before proceeding with
investment. This is important because the ERO already considers the signing
of a contract with a contractor or the execution of orders for its implementation as the “start of the investment.”
The most important element of the procedure for obtaining energy efficiency certificates
is the conduct of an energy efficiency audit. From the professional implementation of this part
of the procedure depends not only on the correct determination of the number of white certificates possible
to obtain (while this number may depend on the correct and insightful look at
savings not only directly resulting from the solutions used, but also those,
that are potentially generated by other equipment in the enterprise as a result
of the modernization activities carried out), but also the fact that a professionally performed
energy efficiency audit protects the investor from the risks that arise from the law, and
that may occur as a result of improper implementation of the audit, that is:

the need to redeem at the ERO certificates issued without coverage in
realized savings

Potential penalty (up to 10% of the company’s turnover in the year prior to
submissions)

a ban on applying for certificates for the next 5 years
It should be noted here that some professional companies involved in
performing audits and consulting on obtaining white certificates are
able to take some of these risks on themselves by “replacing” the investor in
activities directly related to obtaining and then selling on the white market
certificates. This approach also guarantees the ability to get the best price for white
certificates on the market.
Use the professional services of companies that perform audits
Energy efficiency also provides other opportunities – very often experience in
implementation of such work results in greater awareness of what projects can
be the subject of applying for white certificates – in practice, it is very common that
people implementing investments overlook such an opportunity due to lack of awareness of the possibility
of using the support system.
Another added value is the potential opportunity to benefit from a support system for
projects that do not meet the minimum level of savings achieved (this
is 10 tons of oil equivalent – equivalent to about 116 MWh of savings per year).
In fact, according to the law, there is the possibility of “aggregation” of projects of the same nature – companies
engaged in obtaining certificates for their clients often have a database
of projects, which opens up the possibility of obtaining additional
funding even for smaller projects.
Examples of projects for which white certificates can be obtained are:

Replacement of lighting with energy-efficient lighting – in this case, even a small reduction in
lighting power leads – with a long period of use – to savings that
allow to obtain white certificates

Optimization of the operation of air conditioning, ventilation and heating equipment – starting
from measures obvious for older installations such as replacing compressor equipment
with devices with so-called free-cooling, and ending with new installations, where
additional devices can be introduced – such as heat pumps – allowing
to optimize the operation of the system, and thus achieve large savings in the consumption of
electricity and heat.

Installation of a system for monitoring and control of energy consumption at a detailed level –
monitoring of energy consumption not by the entire installation, but by individual receivers, which
allows not only for better management of energy consumption (including water, heat and gas), but
enables better management of assets – allows you to compare energy
consumption of similar devices in different locations and thus assess their use
or the possibility of finding a fault, which in turn allows you to improve the management of issues
repairs or repairs or better plan the schedule of replacement of equipment. In extreme
cases, such systems make it possible to detect abuses in the work of a particular branch of the company
By monitoring energy consumption…
In addition to the direct effect of reducing
bills, improving energy use can also serve image purposes and indirectly influence
competitiveness in, for example, the rental market for facilities such as shopping malls or
warehouse premises, which become
more attractive to tenants by reducing energy use charges.
Finally, it should be noted that the white certificate system will
most likely be maintained until 2030 due to the already announced plans by the
European Union to extend the
efficiency targets for member countries while increasing the target to 30%.
Remember – the cheapest energy is the one saved.

Did you know that you can significantly reduce your energy costs and your company’s carbon footprint at the same time by using power from renewable energy sources? One area that we have full control over in the company is energy management. One possible solution is to be powered by a photovoltaic source, which will cover part of the demand during peak energy consumption hours. What benefits will you get from it? A few of the most important should be mentioned:

– The expected price of energy in the long term (when entering into a volume cPPA contract),

– Independence from possible power outages or restrictions,

– possible extension of operating time with renewable energy supply by using energy storage,

– reduction of carbon footprint

An example installation of 2MW will produce about 2GWh of electricity. Assuming energy increases in the coming months to around PLN 1,200-1,400/MWh and a contract price of around PLN 800/MWh from a photovoltaic installation, we are talking about savings of well over half a million zlotys per year. The reduction inCO2 emissions would amount to about 1,520 tons ofCO2.

We can help you implement projects to increase energy efficiency in your enterprise, we have extensive experience in many industries – call us we will share them. We can also help you calculate the carbon footprint of your business or your products, we are at your service….

A zero-carbon data center based on a photovoltaic system and energy storage is a way to meet the growing demand in the data processing and storage market. Such an installation allows the project to be implemented in an innovative way that provides 100% power to the data center from RES. Projects can be implemented in different configurations depending on the geographical location – the size of the necessary data storage depends on this.
